BLOOD SHED RAIN ZINE

I listened to punk and nu metal and weird shit when I was pretty young then I attended the Melbourne all ages show of the first Throwdown tour. I was straight edge by this point and it was the sickest shit I’d ever seen. The image of Eitzen and Weber opening up the pit for the first time is burnt into my memory. Pretty much never stopped going to shows or thinking about hardcore music from then until now and can’t see a time where that will change.

Yeah I was probably like 14-15. We all just went to school together and were kind of getting into hardcore together so we naturally just wanted to do a band too. It was fun mostly and we got to do a serious amount of shows and play with some amazing bands that we idolised through that band so I’ll never regret how terrible we were haha. I met a shitoad of people that shaped the future for me in that band and Bear Trap so that’s always positive.

I got over being in a shit band (haha) and wanted to do something NYHC No Warning/Cold Worldish so I just started writing some tracks and they ended up like that and thought I’d give singing a go. Some of the dudes from My Struggle were in Bear Trap too but yeah basically just kind of fizzled out and we got shitter and shitter until it just collapsed on itself in a terrible heap. But I definitely had some of the most fun times of my youth with the dudes in that band and the people I met in it and played a ton of cool as fuck shows.

Well originally my best friend Brett who sings in Hopeless played guitar in the latter days of Bear Trap and we decided at the end we would do a band where I play guitar again and he sang because he had a sick voice (and still does haha). At the same time I was hanging out with Jase a lot because our girlfriends at the time were friends and he wanted to do a band aswell. We pretty much all just hung out one day and it turned into the band that is now Hopeless. We all decided we wanted to do something a little different because Jase was also coming off the back of The Stallion who were kind of like tough/heavy stuff aswell so we just started writing songs and the Hopeless demo is what happened. I had known Chris for years and knew he could play bass from seeing Cut Your Losses so I got him in the band and I played drums on the demo that we put out then one day Skan just messaged us and said he’d do the band if we wanted. We were all stoked and yeah pretty much just went from there.

Josh and Lloyd from Warbrain who were also in Carpathian together wrote some tracks together and told me they were doing a band with Kain and stuff so originally i wanted to sing. Then Lloyd did a demo and his voice was sick so we went with that and i got recruited on guitar which ruled because in my opinion the band already had 2 of melbournes sickest guitarists in it. we’re all best mates so it was all good. Josh moved overseas last year and we got neil from iron mind/frozen over/bleed you dry on drums to fill in and then when Josh moved back home we decided we would keep the line up and add Josh on 2nd guitar

me and nick who used to play in a band called lover’s grave have always really seen eye to eye on a musical level ever since he filled in for hopeless for the first time back in 2009. he’s an amazing drummer and a good friend of mine so it just made sense that we did something together and we really wanted to just do a mosh band in the style that we loved growing up. after we did the demo i got some of my mates together and now we are a real life band and we have an EP coming out in a couple of months. i love doing this band and its super fun. i hate singing but i love it too.

outsider’s code is originally a project that baina from her nightmare and alex who used to play drums in hitlist did together because they just always wanted to make music together. theyre both really talented dudes and i was lucky enough along with my good friend chris tew from hopeless to be asked to play in the band. baina is a super talented dude and its awesome playing with him and alex. i was freaking a little bit when i joined because he has such a distinct music writing style which was a little foreign to my playing at first but i think ive managed to pick it up. doing that band is super fun and i am so stoked to play in a band with chewy again.

its fucking great, more and more kids coming out to shows and getting into wild unknown shit that like i haven’t even heard of! like some band from a bumfuck town in the US who only has a demo dudes at shows will be mad rocking their shit which is cool but not when it becomes a contest of who has the most merch and whatever. i will say that australian hardcore is fucking amazing and we produce just as good if not better bands than the US so I think if i have one gripe at all it’s just that dudes need to support their own country’s scene just as much. I know more and more US bands are touring here and that is awesome but without a scene of our own who will they play to?

ill definitely say playing in bands. for me playing in bands isnt even a hobby or whatever its a necessity. as lame as it sounds i have music flowing through my veins and i need to let it out or else i would feel like a shell of myself. a lot of people drop off when their bands break up and that definitely sucks but i can see how it happens, especially when you put everything into doing a band and it either fizzles out or gets cut off at its peak, you can really hold a lot of resentment or bitter feelings towards the people who turn their back on you. im definitely not going to be one of those dudes trying to start a band that “makes it big” when im like 28 or 29 or whatever, but as far as i am concerned there wont be a time in my life where i wont at least be a little involved with this dumb thing we call hardcore.

band is bleeding through. is that even strictly mosh though? i dont know. theyre the only one of my top whatever bands that would fit into the category though. can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes and have been releasing bangers and progressing for over a decade. my ultimate mosh album is probably haymaker or cover your tracks. i couldn’t choose.

definitely prefer playing guitar, don’t get me wrong i fucking love singing and it’s one of the greatest gifts to have a vehicle to express yourself and your views so freely while being up close and personal with the people that are getting into your music. it’s incredible. but it is so fucking nerve racking and im nowhere near as good at it as i am at guitar so im still pretty unconfident.

Outsiders Code are a heavy hardcore band out of Melbourne featuring members from Her Nightmare, Hitlist, Hopeless and Warbrain.This band is sick, if you have an opportunity to see them do it, one of the best bands that ive seen in a while
